In 1996, my life became consumed by the Olympics, more specifically by women's gymnastics. I knew the name of every American competitor, the name of her coach, how old she was, how long she had been training, and her favorite color. I knew the strengths and weaknesses of each country's team, and I watched each event religiously.
One thing I distinctly remember, however, is memorizing the beginning of the American team's beam routine and practicing it on the edge of my bed every night before going to sleep.
I'm surprised I didn't break my neck.
Also, I really miss watching gymnastics.

Funny, at the time, my family had a porch with a railing-type thinger and I did the beam thing on that.
