I think I'm going to start making chat appointments when I'm using an instant messenger program. That way, I can talk to one person at a time for no longer than thirty minutes, and anyone else who wants to gab can leave a message after the beep. Trying to stretch my very limited wittiness across ten conversations at once is just too much for this old lady to handle. Plus, I really need a good excuse to force people to listen to hold music.

*ahem* Well, can I pay you with a seven-legged spider drawing? I believe I'm carrying a long overdue chat balance.

Haha, sounds like my experience when dealing with IMs. I wish there was some type of voicemail for instant messaging - how cool would that be?

Too popular for 'lil ole me. Le sigh. I remember our chats... always resulting in one (or both) of us peeing our pants. Those were the good ole days.
And if you do start making appointments, I deserve way more than 30 minutes, and my hold music should be Hanson. Thank you very much.

What you need to do is always have your status set to Away. Then when anyone tries to message you that you don't feel like talking to, just ignore them.

I actually have almost everyone I know blocked on g-chat. I hate, hate, hate mindless chatting with ten people at once. Or really with anyone. So I only keep people who either (a) I know will never g-chat me or (b) we have a certain rhythm set up with them so that chatting is fun and not draining. In college, I LOVED randomly instant messaging with 900 people at a time. But I can't handle it anymore. I think I'm getting too old haha!
